East Greenbush Wins First Place In Capital Region

On Wednesday, June 29th, the scholastic team of the East Greenbush Chess Club (EGCC) was awarded first place in the Capital Region for the 2010-2011 school year (see Top Schools). More than Thirty teams competed in a series of 10 monthly chess tournaments held in various locations throughout the capital region. The tournaments were sponsored by Make The Right Move, the capital region’s chapter of The Right Move, dedicated to free chess tournaments for youth.  Adult competition is also encouraged.  Brother John McManus from La Salle School serves as the Senior Level USCF certified Tournament Director in these Nationally certified chess tournaments.

The East Greenbush Chess Club meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Sunshine Day Care building at 14 Hayes Rd in East Greenbush. The club provides various activities that include weekly chess classes and monthly tournaments. Membership includes all ages and is free to the public.
